Kallaloo For FLEXIBLE String Orchestra (Grades 2.5 and 3)
This bouncy reggae jam is a FLEXIBLE orchestra piece for violin, viola, cello, bass, and drumset. It’s geared towards high school orchestras and has LOTS of customizability for any orchestral configuration/situation.
This is an arrangement of the hard version of the score. Remember, this is just one possibility, you can arrange it however you like!
The music consists of three lines: Melody, Harmony, and Bassline, which are written out for each instrument. Customize whatever arrangement you want! Want the cellos and basses to play the melody, violins to play the harmony, and violas to do the bassline? Go for it! Want violas on melody, cellos on harmony, and violins and basses on bassline? It’s easy! You can even have instruments trade parts during the song so every section has a chance to shine.
This digital download comes with TWO versions of the score and parts: Easy (Grade 2.5) and Hard (Grade 3). The Easy version has simplified rhythms and some fingerings, while the Hard part has more difficult rhythms and no fingerings.
Kallaloo also has a bridge section for improvisation! But don’t worry, if your students are unsure about what notes to use, there is a cheat sheet that breaks it down for them. Have a whole section improvise at the same time, a star soloist dazzle the crowd, or even have multiple students trade 4 bar phrases!
With 4 high quality drum backing tracks in very slow, slow, medium, and performance tempo, you’ll be able to have your students groove along no matter what tempo you’re practicing it at. Plus for performance, there’s a drum lead sheet so you can have a live drummer accompany the orchestra!
That’s not all! Have your students ever wanted to know how to accompany a melody without having anything specific written for them? This product also contains a Backup Rhythm sheet that shows easy, medium, and hard rhythms that students can use to make their own Bassline and Harmony parts. There’s an explanation sheet for the teacher on how to educate students on making their own parts in no time!
Finally, if that wasn’t enough customizability for you, you also get the Sibelius and XML files of both the Easy and Hard Versions. If you have the arranger’s spirit and want to make something custom for your students, go ahead and rock it!
